Dance for all! |
Ballet Theatre Academy (BTA)
BTA, the training division of Ballet Theatre Company, provides classical dance training in ballet and other disciplines for young dancers. Children who are enrolled in classes at BTA also have the opportunity to dance in professionally developed performances. Each year Ballet Theatre Company stages at least two full length productions where BTA dancers perform with professional dancers.
As students progress through their training, they have the opportunity to audition for the Company as Junior Company, Apprentice, or full Company dancers. In addition to the full length productions, Company dancers typically perform throughout greater Hartford in events such as the Ted Hershey Dance Marathon, the 5X5 festival, and The Wadsworth Atheneum’s Festival of Trees.
BTC is partnered with two professional dance companies, CONNetic Dance Company and Exit 12 Dance Company. Both organizations perform throughout the northeast and are recognized for their high-level of performance standards and creativity.
BTA faculty are professionally trained dancers who come from a diverse dance background. Our faculty have trained and danced with a such notable schools and ballet organizations as: The Nutmeg Ballet, The Connecticut Valley Regional Ballet, The Connecticut Opera Ballet, The Hartford Conservatory, Ballet Theatre of Boston, American Repertory Ballet, Hartford Ballet, and the Alvin Ailey School. Each of our very talented teachers is an experienced dancer and has an excellent record of training young dancers and providing individualized attention in a healthy, nurturing environment that effectively challenges students to reach their individual potential.
BTA follows the guidelines of American Ballet Theatre’s National training curriculum and is overseen by ABT certified teachers. The curriculum is a blend of the Russian, French, and Italian schools and was designed in conjunction with top medical professionals in the dance world to develop a healthy dancer while reducing the proliferation of dance related injuries common today. Its intent is to train a versatile dancer to meet the needs of today’s American dance companies. Classes are available for dancers ages 2-99. The core ballet curriculum is supplemented with classes in Modern, Jazz, Hip Hop, Yoga and Pilates
Many of the young dancers who train at BTA also excel academically, ranking among the top students in their schools. BTA provides a supportive, non-competitive atmosphere in which all dancers are encouraged to excel and to reach their highest potential.
