Ballet Theatre Company
Ballet Theater Company’s the training division of the Company, provides classical dance training in ballet and other disciplines for young dancers. Children who are enrolled in classes at BTA also have the opportunity to dance in professionally developed performances. Each year Ballet Theatre Company stages at least two full length productions where BTA dancers perform with professional dancers.
BTC is a local 501c3 not for profit organization. We work to bring dance to all.
Our Mission:
Productions
BTC’s headline signature
performance is its annual Nutcracker production. Our Artistic Director for 2010
is Roman Baca, a faculty member at our school.
Mr. Baca is the Artistic Director for New York City's Exit12 Dance
Company, and a former marine, deployed to Fallujah in 2005. Based on his
unique background, Mr. Baca has created a magical adaptation of this holiday
classic. For a brief overview of the story see: nutcracker.dancebtc.org. Nutcracker 2010 performances will run
December 16-19 at the Carol Autorino Center for the
Arts and Humanities on the Saint Joseph College Campus in West Hartford.
Continuing into the
2010-2011 performance season, BTC performs in productions and events such as Fall 5X5, Ted Hershey, BTC’s Spring Repertory, and
BTC’s Spring Showcase, along with presentations at the Wadsworth Museum and
many other venues.
Community Outreach - Giving Kids a Chance through Dance
Free Classes
Because of the generous efforts of financial donors, BTC will once again be
offering free dance workshops to children in need through organizations such as
the Hillcrest Area Neighborhood Outreach Center (HANOC) and The Village for
Families and Children. A video link of some of last spring's classes can
be found at: http://www.dancebtc.org/btcs-outreach.html
Special Performance of the Nutcracker
Beginning in 2003, with just 50
children, we now invite over 600 children from 30 local child and family
services organizations to attend a performance of the Nutcracker, at no charge
to them. Transportation and other assistance are provided by BTC and with
the help of financial donors. For many of these children this is often
their first experience attending a live, professional, theatrical
production. These children have the opportunity to experience the arts
and also learn valuable lessons with respect to behavior. Prior to
attending the Nutcracker, these children learn about proper etiquette for
attending any live performance and are
very excited to use their new skills. The excitement during this
wonderful evening is truly magical.
Toys for Tots
Through our partnership with
Mr. Baca, BTC supports the Marine Corps Toys for Tots program including having
Marines present with a collection box at every public performance.
Veterans Day Program
In honor of Veteran's Day, we performed
excerpts of the Nutcracker for patients and staff at the Bronx Veteran Affairs
Hospital on Wednesday November 10th, the day before Veteran's Day.
