BTA provides professional caliber ballet training supplemented by other dance disciplines to dancers ages 3 to adult who are seeking a friendly, welcoming, and creative environment that is flexible and tailored to meet individual dancer needs.

Class Descriptions
(Noted ages are guidelines; BTA recommends that you work with our Executive Director in order to assess individual needs. Please contact us at dance@dancebtc.org for more information.)
001 - CREATIVE MOVEMENT: An introduction to basic dance movement, musicality and, creative styles. 1 class per week; recommended ages 3-4 years of age.
005 - PRIMARY BALLET: An introduction to basic ballet technique with an emphasis on posture, spatial awareness and musicality. This level is designed to cover 3 years of training. 1 class per week; recommended ages 5 years of age and older.
100 - LEVEL 1: Ballet Theory is introduced with emphasis on body position and strength building. Barre work is introduced and center work focuses on basic steps and movement across the floor. 2 classes per week; recommended ages 8 years of age and older.
200 - LEVEL 2: Builds on level 1 adding in use of the head, more complex barre exercises and floor exercises. Girls work on strengthening exercises in preparation for future pointe work. 2 classes per week; recommended ages 9 years of age and older and requires Executive Director’s approval for registration

300 - LEVEL 3: Builds on level 1 and 2 with introduction of increasing difficult steps and movement. Pointe work is introduced at the recommendation of the teacher. Level 3 dancers may audition for Ballet Theatre Company’s Junior Company. 3 classes per week; recommended ages 10 years of age and older.
400 - LEVEL 4: This is an advanced level class with opportunity for membership into Ballet Theatre Company’s BTC II. 4 classes per week; recommended ages 12 years of age and older.
700 - CONTEMPORARY: Incorporates classical, modern, and jazz techniques using the classical vocabulary. The center part of class will focus on a combination built over two weeks. Class will be en pointe.
Modern and Pilates are also offered and can be taken as a supplement to a dancer’s curriculum or individually.
400 - LEVEL 4: This is an advanced level class with opportunity for membership into Ballet Theatre Company’s BTC II. 4 classes per week; recommended ages 12 years of age and older.

Ballet Theatre Jr. Company and Ballet Theatre Company II
BTC Junior Company
BTC Junior Company is a training group for dancers interested in incremental performance opportunities, additional exposure to professional dancers, and enhanced mentoring. Dancers in BTC Junior Company have the opportunity to take barre class with the professional dancers when they are in the Hartford area. BTC Junior Company offers its members performance opportunities throughout the year, including Nutcracker, Spring Repertory, and Spring Showcase. There may also be additional possibilities to perform at the discretion of the Artistic Director. BTC Junior Company dancers attending West Hartford public high school are eligible to receive honors credit through the independent study program for their work with Ballet Theatre Company.
Membership in BTC Junior Company is based on audition. Auditions are held in late August or as scheduled by the Artistic Director. Requirements for membership in Junior Company include:
BTC II
BTC II is a pre-professional performing corps that gives dancers the training needed to bridge the gap between student and professional through performing opportunities with professional dancers from Exit12 Dance Company and CONNetic Dance, as well as performances created specifically for BTC II. Dancers in BTC II are integrated with professionals and have the opportunity to take additional classes and attend select rehearsals with professional dancers in New York City. BTC II offers its members performance opportunities throughout the year, including Nutcracker, Spring Repertory, Ted Hershey Dance Marathon and Spring Showcase. There may also be additional possibilities to perform with professionals at the discretion of the Artistic Director. BTC II dancers attending West Hartford public high school are eligible to receive honors credit through the independent study program for their work with Ballet Theatre Company.

- BTC Level 3 or higher
- Minimum 3 Ballet or Modern classes per week, with at least 2 at BTC
- Junior Company dancers are expected to perform, as cast, in the following: BTC Nutcracker, BTC Spring Rep, and, BTC Spring Showcase. Exceptions will be made for significant academic and family conflicts and must be approved by Junior Company Artistic Director.

- BTC Level 4 with minimum of 2 years of pointe training
- Minimum 4 Ballet/Contemporary technique classes per week, with at least 3 at BTC
- BTC II dancers are required to enroll in Friday’s Level 4 technique class from 6:00-8:30pm
- BTC II dancers are expected to perform, as cast, in the following: BTC Nutcracker, BTC Spring Rep, Ted Hershey Dance Marathon, BTC Spring Showcase. Exceptions will be made for significant academic and family conflicts and must be approved by BTC II Artistic Director.

- A 2012-2013 Registration Fee of $30.00 will be added for each dancer (This will not apply for students already registered with BTA).
