Production Week Schedule
Production
week consists of 5 parts:
1. Load in
2. Tech rehearsal
3. Dress rehearsal
4. Production run
5. Strike
To
have a successful production, we need parents and other volunteers to be
involved in all 5 areas.
Load
In – Costumes,
sets, props, bistro, boutique, and box office items are transferred from BTC to
SJC. Dressing rooms are set
up. The marley
dance floor is put down and taped and lights (and usually drops) are hung.
Tech
Rehearsal: All
aspects of the production are brought together on stage for the first
time. This includes transferring
the choreography from the studio to the stage, integrating the sound system,
lights, sets, props, curtains etc.
Typically the tech rehearsal may include several runs of each
segment. Some may be walk throughs without music, others
will be with music and full dancing.
Notes are often given after each section and at the end of each
piece. Those dancers not
participating in a particular segment will be asked to sit quietly in the
theater. Please bring homework,
reading materials or quiet activities.
Also – the tech rehearsal is when chaperones learn their roles regarding
stage entrance and exits. We will
run Gwendolyn first on tech day followed by Wyeth.
Dress
Rehearsal is a
“test run” with make-up and costumes. We will run Act 2, Gwendolyn first to release
as many children early as possible.
After dinner, we will run Act 1 in order (Degas, Wyeth, Pandora, Le Corsiare). Certain sections may need to be re-run. It is important to run each Act entirely
to ensure all aspects (technical and artistic) are working.

Theater Guidelines:
Spring Rep will be staged at the Hoffman
Auditorium in the Bruyette Athenaeum in the Carol Autorino Center for the Arts and Humanities at Saint Joseph
College in West Hartford.
Due
to limited space in the dressing rooms and backstage, the younger dancers are
provided their own space in an upstairs classroom. The room is accessible from the front
staircase in the foyer.
Dancers
will be assigned a section in the room for their belongings, by role, and are
to remain with their assigned chaperones.
In addition to make-up, shoes, and tights assigned for the role, dancers
should bring quiet activities as there will be a “down time”.
For
security and safety reasons, parents are to walk the children into the theater
and sign them in with the on-duty chaperone. Parents must also check-out children
when they pick them up. There is no
exception to this rule.
Once
patrons begin to arrive, dancers should remain in the dressing room so that
they are not visible to people in the lobby. Dancers should remain as QUIET as
possible at all times.
Chaperones
We need a volunteer to create a
check in sheet for all children and a point person/team for each role. In order to chaperone, we need you to
attend tech and dress rehearsal to learn what to do, where to go, etc.
Costumes:
Costumes
are to be treated with care and are to be returned to their appropriate hanger
following each dress rehearsal and performance. A fee will be assessed for any costumes
that are lost or damaged beyond normal wear and tear.
Reminder –
absolutely NO eating, drinking, drawing, or coloring while in costume.
Make-up and Hair
Make-up
is not required for tech rehearsal, but is required for dress rehearsal. In general, we ask that dancers arrive to
the theater with their make-up already applied. This reduces the risk of damage to
costumes. Dancers should still
bring their make-up to the performance so that touch ups can be done as needed.
Dress Code for Cast
Members attending Act I in the audience
Dancers
who are not in Act I may purchase a half price
ticket. As there will be only 15
minutes to get ready for Act II, please have hair and make-up done before the
performance begins. Also, in order to enter the theater
dancers must be appropriately dressed, so as not to call attention to the fact
that they are cast members. This
means a shirt (with sleeves) and either pants or a skirt (no sweatpants please)
and street shoes.
Thank
you!
