Victoria Jaenson

Community Engagement

Originally from Uganda, Victoria Jaenson has been dancing for 19 years, professionally for 4 years, and has been teaching for 6 years. When she was 16, Victoria went to the Rock School for Dance Education to pursue pre-professional ballet training.

One of the programs she was involved in as a student was the RockReach outreach performances. She performed excerpts of pieces from
The Nutcracker, a special piece honoring black baseball player Octavius Catto, and other pieces for local greater Philadelphia area schools. These performances really opened up Victoria’s eyes to the accessibility problem in the dance world. Some of the children at these schools had never been able to see a professional caliber dance performance before, especially ballet. Victoria was only able to pursue this dream with many scholarship opportunities over the years and she only hopes to be able to do the same for other kids.

As a member of the Charlotte Ballet’s 2nd Company, she also performed Lecture Demonstrations to the Greater Charlotte Area school systems. These included a Storybook show, a Jazz Show, and a Black History Month show which included mixed repertoire.

Season 23 began Victoria’s work with Ballet Theatre Company’s outreach program as the teacher for the “Everybody Dance Now” program, in collaboration with the Miracle League of Connecticut. For Season 24, she is excited to take on the role of Outreach Coordinator and keep expanding the outreach programs in BTC for the Greater Hartford and West Hartford areas!

Laurel Hoskins

Graphic Designer

Laurel's relationship with Ballet Theatre Company began 20 years ago when her 5 year old daughter Lianna took ballet lessons at the Masonic Hall on Main Street, the rented studio where the fledgling BTC ran classes and performances. Soon after, BTC hired her to do some marketing and graphic work to promote their growing business and productions. Since then, the partnership has flourished and brought Laurel deep into the pulse of the West Hartford Arts community and enriched her professional and personal life with many opportunities and friendships.

Her formative years were spent in Mexico, Brazil, Peru, California, and Connecticut. Formal schooling included Bucknell University and University of Connecticut, earning a BA in English Literature with minors in Botany and Astronomy. An abiding interest in art and design lead to lifelong studies in graphic design. Still learning!

Laurel currently shelters at home in West Hartford with her husband of 29 years, a civil rights attorney and Yale law professor, Stephen Pevar. They have somehow managed to raise two extraordinary daughters who remain the apples of their eyes. They enjoy gardening and heating their home with wood that Stephen chops himself. But that is a different story.
