Jo-ann Burke

Ballet & Pointe

Jo-ann began her training with Irina Vakhromeeva (MFA- Vaganova, PHD- Bolshoi) and Carlos Molina (ABT). She continued at The School of the Pennsylvania Ballet, under Ms. Arantxa Ochoa (Balanchine), and Artistic Director Angel Corella (ABT), as well as The Kansas City Ballet, under Artistic Director Devon Carney. She spent her summers studying with: The Joffrey Academy in Chicago, The Bolshoi Ballet, Koltun Ballet Boston, Ballet Austin, The Pacific Northwest Ballet, The School of American Ballet, The Pennsylvania Ballet, Texas Ballet Theater, The Milwaukee Ballet, and Jacob’s Pillow. These experiences offer her a diverse range of techniques and training styles to draw from when teaching her own students.

During her time as a member of Milwaukee Ballet’s second company, MBII, Jo-ann volunteered with the Tour De Force, a multi-level program that paired professional dancers with doctors and physical therapists from the Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin, bringing ballet to kids with a range of special needs and disabilities. While a member of Syracuse City Ballet, she demonstrated in online instruction and taught classes at Ballet and Dance of Upstate NY, as well as weekly ballet classes at an after-school elementary outreach program. Having performed with Ballet Theatre Company, Syracuse City Ballet, Milwaukee Ballet, The Kansas City Ballet, and The Pennsylvania Ballet, she brings a wealth of performance experience to share with her students.

Miss Jo-ann joined the BTC team in 2020 as a substitute teacher, and since then she has taken on a larger role at the school. She looks forward to

working with SBTC students again this season.
